How to apply for International Studies

Application deadlines

University bachelor’s programmes in the Netherlands only have a September intake. It is not possible to start in February. Please note that the University has to have received your complete application – including the 100 euro application fee for non-VWO students – before the application deadlines stated below. Although late applications may not necessarily be refused, the processing of your application may be seriously delayed if you apply after these deadlines:

Foreign students and Dutch students with a qualification other than a Dutch VWO diploma

Apply via Leiden University’s Online Application System. You can use this online form if you are an international student (you hold a non-Dutch passport from outside the EU and/or you are seeking admission on the basis of a diploma that was obtained outside the Netherlands or an International or European Baccalaureate). Or if you qualify to apply for admission via the Colloquium Doctum procedure.

When applying, please note:

Dutch students with a VWO diploma

Prospective Dutch students with a VWO diploma can apply for the BA in International Studies on Leiden University’s page on Studielink. The International Studies programme is formally called ‘International Studies’ (CROHO code 59316).

Tuition fees

Tuition fees are calculated per academic year (1 September to 31 August), and you are required to pay fees for each calendar month that you are registered at Leiden University. The tuition fee amount depends on your nationality and your study programme. More information on tuition fees.
